New Spydercos

Pictures are floating around the net of new Spyderco models that will be coming into production. From the looks of them, this is going to be a very good year for Spyderco fans.

My personal favorite is the PPT. It is essentially a frame lock knife with textured G10 scales on top of the frame. It is flat ground with a clip point blade. It looks like Spyderco is not going to make the clip ambi, but it appears that it the knife could me modded to make the clip amib without too much work. The only thing missing from this knife is IKBS.

The Zulu from Jens Anso is also a great looking knife. I like it much better than Spyderco's Roklobster design. The textured G10 handle looks very secure and comfortable. It has a high flat grind with an Onion-esque recurved blade. The pre-production model had a four-way clip. Spyderco has stated that the production model will be tip up ambi carry only.

There's a new Lum model with interesting carbon fiber twill scales that supposedly originated from Toyota. It retains the VG-10 blade of current models. There is apparently also a stretched Lum model coming to market with a 4.5" blade.

For the Szabo fans out there, there is also an upcoming Szabo folder from Spyderco. It is a large folder using Spyderco's compression lock.

Spyderco is also re-releasing some old favorites, as well as reworking some current ones. The Sage, Calypso, Native, and the UK Pen Knife are all getting makeovers. The popular Matriarch is being re-introduced in plain and serrated edge versions. It also looks as if a sprint run of the Eduard Bradichansky Shabaria will be made this year.
